Arusjak Tschakarjan Foundation

(Arusjak Tschakarjan Stiftung)

Promotion of public paediatrics in Bulgaria

About the foundation

The foundation was established in December 2007. It is a non-profit, charitable organisation based in Cologne, the foundation supervisory authority being the Cologne District Government (Bezirksregierung Köln).

Dr Arusjak Tschakarjan (1925-2004), eponym of the foundation, was paediatrician and supported in various ways financially poorer people (particularly such in Bulgaria) as well as paediatricians and children's clinics in Bulgaria.

The foundation is raising funds for the promotion of the public health care and for the care of needy children and young people with Bulgarian citizenship by paediatric institutions of the public health care in Bulgaria. The funds are used for donations to paediatric institutions of the public health care in Bulgaria, in particular to children's clinics, for specific purposes (e.g. the purchase of medicines, medical equipment etc.). In exceptional cases and under specific conditions, the foundation can contribute by a donation to short-term study-related stays abroad of medical students or junior doctors. Donations to privately funded paediatric institutions are excluded, as well as all kinds of cash benefits.

The foundation is a small-scale organisation and has a very modest budget at its disposal. It attaches all the more importance to the efficiency of its donations and the supervision of their use.

Board: Magarditsch Hatschikjan (chairman) and Dr Senop Tschakarjan, M.D. (vice chairman).
